History

Paradou Art Ltd London

Paradou Art Ltd was founded in 2002 by Regina Krahl (Polter) as Paradou Writing Ltd, a business for the research, writing and consultancy on ancient Chinese works of art that has published internationally acclaimed art books. As the personal enthusiasm of Regina Krahl and Michael Karolus, who now jointly define the direction of the company, for the study and collecting of modern Western art gradually gained the upper hand, they re-named the company in 2017 Paradou Art Ltd and are now buying and selling what they love best: fine works on paper, modern classic sculptures, and extraordinary works of art in various media.

Western and Asian works of modern art that stand in a classic tradition are foremost among our interests, but we can also get excited by ancient masters and certain contemporary artists. We are aiming to discover works that are marked by a distinctive personal language, are created to a high technical standard, and convince by a timeless beauty.

Works on paper, often intimate in format and light and airy in feeling, are a medium that fascinates us greatly, be it the spontaneity of water colours and drawings, the finesse of etchings, or the strength of paintings in oil on paper. The still lives and landscapes on paper by the Italian artist Giorgio Morandi (1890-1964) include some of his most important works. Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966), Ben Nicholson (1894-1982), Saul Steinberg (1914-1999), and David Hockney are some of the artists we admire immensely. Among sculptures, we concentrate on works in bronze by the Polish artist Igor Mitoraj (1944-2014); our exceptional contemporary works of art include objects wrapped by Christo.
